  • Student: well, I know that...
  • Me: ::writing on the board with back to the class:: are you walking over here instead of staying in your spot and using words like we have talked about?
  • Student 2: (whispering to neighbor) Woah, how did she know that??
  • Student 3: ms s has eyes in the back of her head
  • Student 2: nu-Uh!
  • Student 3: it's true, my mom told me

Reading response

  • Student: well say that bear was the daddy bear and another bear was the mommy bear, then the mommy bear, she would argue with the bear

  • (reading "The Mitten," a story about animals taking refuge in a lost mitten)
  • Student 1: I think if that bear tries to go in there it will break
  • Student 2: well, it can't really break, but I think that bear will *tear* the mitten
  • Student 3: I think the bear is going in and then it will explode!!
  • (The bear does indeed go into the mitten, and then a mouse as well... And then the bear sneezes and animals go flying!)
  • Student 2: I think the bear must have been allergic to all those animals!!
